Program participants are challenged to apply what they are learning in the program to solving problems in their community. Morehouse students chose to apply their learning to impacting the Southside of Atlanta Georgia, through the creation of an after school program at Dunbar Elementary School, participation in an alternative sentencing program with the Atlanta Municipal Court, and the efforts to revitalize the economy in the Southwest quadrant of the city.
Students identify and analyze specific problems, develop alternative solutions, and then work with community stakeholders to implement the most effective solution. This process calls fore students to interact with civic, economic, academic, and nonprofit leaders at different levels of society. It challenges them to learn than just the content of their psychology, economics, history, and mathematics classes. It challenges them to understand what is most useful from those subjects and find the most effective, efficient, and progressive strategies to apply it.
