Program Overview

​This is the inaugural year for the Emerging Leaders Program for the alumni of U.S. Embassy programs in Mexico and the metropolitan area. This program will prepare Mexico's emerging leaders to influence their, peers, government, and economy through a challenging and comprehensive one-year program. Twenty students who have demonstrated leadership skills in past U.S. Embassy programs will be selected for this opportunity.


Timeline

The program will start with online orientation sessions in January 2023. Members will then participate in a three-day, in-person training program in Mexico City from February 24 to 27, 2023. After the training, participants will be given a small investment to develop a project for a community in Mexico City and the metropolitan area. They will be given four months to implement the project that will transform some aspect of the community they choose.  In September, the program participants will present projects to U.S. Embassy officials and community stakeholders. From September to December, participants will complete the program by participating in a final training that will prepare them to train other emerging leaders to impact their communities in the future.


Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants are former Embassy exchange program recipients residing in Mexico, who are between 18 and 26 years of age. Those selected for the program will be expected to stay in the hotel where the training conference will be held from February 24 to February 27, 2023 (this will be at no cost to the participant).


​Please be aware that if you are coming from a state that is not Mexico City or the State of Mexico, you will be responsible for covering your transportation costs to Mexico City for the in-person activities.


Selection Process

The application process will begin November 7, 2022 at 6:00 am CDT and end December 4th, 2022 at 11:59 pm CDT. The first stage of the process will be an online application, which can be found through a link at the bottom of this page. Those who pass the first stage will be invited to interview with our staff. If you are selected from the interview, your name will be submitted to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico for final approval. Upon approval, you will begin your journey as a Nation Builder. This program is funded by the Embassy. Those selected will not will not pay for their participation.
